In this series about the Divine Feminine Tour I’m leading to Spain from May 18-28, 2020, I feature Barcelona, one of the four amazing cities on the trip. In previous blog posts, I have written about Granada, Montserrat and Cordoba. We will have four days in Barcelona, our last city on the tour.
Exploring Barcelona, Old and New
Barcelona is a city full of surprises; the ancient part of the city is well preserved and makes for easy walking tours. Off La Rambla Boulevard, a tree-lined pedestrian walking area that leads to the harbor, there is a wonderful open market with food vendors called La Boqueria. This is a feast for the eyes as well as the nose as the place is bursting with color with many Spanish fruits, vegetables, meats and sweets. The opportunity to taste the various foods happens easily as there are many ways the food is prepared and presented to eat. It is a wonderful surprise in the middle of Old Barcelona.
World-class museums representing Joan Miró and other grand Spanish masters are located in Old Barcelona or in nearby communities. As we return from Montserrat back to Barcelona, we will see the Salvador Dali museum.
Gothic churches are scattered throughout Old Barcelona and beyond. One church unparalleled in the world is the La Sagrada Familia. This earthy yet beyond-this-world design speaks to bringing in the Divine Feminine at many levels. Nature is incorporated at every turn. This church is still be completed one hundred years after Gaudi started it. It is said to be completed by 2026. Many other buildings were created by Gaudi, including Park Güell, a lovely park that initially had been sought to have been a planned community for the city of Barcelona.
The modern part of the city reflects innovative, artistic architecture yet elements of Old Barcelona with ornate rod iron designs still are often present in the neighborhoods.
There will be time for rest and contemplation before we return home. And I’m happy to provide tips about souvenir shopping! The open market near La Rambla is perfect for unique and reasonably priced gifts.
